Updated: Aug 30, 2022

What is Turmeric?

Turmeric is a root, which is commonly used as a spice in Asian cooking to add colour and enhance the nutritional benefits of a meal. Turmeric has a strong flavour and an amazing yellow-orange colour, that stains absolutely everything; from utensils to fingers!

What is Turmeric good for?

Just like some fruit, vegetable and herb; Turmeric possesses amazingly potent compounds that are anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-oxidant. These properties help to aid in relieving the pain and discomfort associated with many different common ailments.

Sufferers of arthritis, joint and back pain, know all too well, the throbbing, stiffness, pain and heat that can arise. These symptoms would be considered inflammation, however due to Turmerics' anti-oxidant chemicals, this culinary root can combat these uncomfortable symptoms.

Not only is Turmeric shown to have extraordinary effects on these physical ailments, it also contributes to the health of the mind. There is a famous study which documents the effects of Turmeric on depression in comparison to the prescribed drug, Prozac. It was found to be just as effective as Prozac, without any horrible side effects often associated with the use of Prozac.

Taking Turmeric means that not only will your body become more nourished and healthy but your mind and emotional health will also see improvements. Coupled with other natural therapies such as massage or osteopathy; you may find your back pain improving and general wellbeing increasing.

*Try two teaspoons of turmeric with a pinch of black pepper and mix it into hot almond milk.
